Artist's Comments

First off, this is meant to be funny, not offensive (Although it will probably offend some).
I had a dream the other night that I was back in theology class, and in the dream, my professor was discussing the merits of drilling holes in your head in order to be able to hear God better. It was an odd dream, and inspired me, a theology major turned atheist, to draw this picture.

HaHa, I hate when people get offended over stuff like this! I consider myself Catholic (albeit a Liberal one) and think that this is hysterical. Really good :giggle:

nice one, although seeing that brain or brains is not mentioned in the bible, wouldn't he just have an empty head.

I like it.

The perspective on the lips is a little wonky (unless the rear half of the upper lip is somehow lax, as though the person praying is not SMILING but rather SMIRKING with a half-smile), but the rest of the anatomy is pretty good.

I saw a great quote on a photo, somewhere around dA, that applies nicely to this art too:

"Prayer: the practice of believing you're doing something constructive while actually doing nothing."

That line nicely sums up my feelings about prayer: it's sycophantic, spineless, and the adult equivalent of writing a note to Santa. If there's a god, he must be plenty pissed that people are always asking him for favors. If there's a god, he should write on a mountainside "Do it your own d**ned self. Sheesh!"

Possibly the worst are the sports coaches who pray before a match. Wtf... "help the other team lose, so we can gloat and they can go home whining about a dumb GAME."

I wonder why we don't have constructive games rather than competitive. Imagine, for example, the fun of watching (instead of competitive football) a game played by a team of 10 builders who must cooperate to do a barnraising (or build low-income housing, shelters for the homeless, etc.) BUT do not speak one-anothers' languages.
I know which show *I'D* rather watch!!!

Mark Twain wrote a great short story about prayer and perspective. It's called "the Long Prayer". It's about 3 A3 pages long, and appears in its entirety here: [link] ( www warprayer dot org )

Doubt and objectivity are essential. Without them, experience merely reinforces prejudice.
